Fenwick Island State Park

…our favorite beach is located on Coastal Hwy. (Rte. 1) just outside of town on the northbound side of the road and ocean side, of course!  No hotels or anything to interrupt your fun in the sun and surf.  One of the best features is not having to watch the time and running to feed a parking meter, or getting parking tickets.  Here you pay admission by the car load per day, week or annually and can park your vehicle at the sand.  An annual pass will allow you to use any state parks in Delaware and can be purchased online at http://www.destateparks.com/fees/entry/annual-pass.asp or at the parks.  The rates can’t be beat especially if grandmom does the buying…for Delaware seniors 62+ its only $12.00/year or $24. if she’s from out of state.   The passes are issued by vehicle, not per person.  So cram everyone in that VW and head to the beach!!

Besides the above benefits of using this park, the pristine beauty is a joy to behold.  You sun bath on white sand with dunes & natural beach grass at your back.   The state has beach umbrellas, chairs & rafts for rent too.   There is a large bathhouse with restrooms, showers, and snacks so you don’t have to trudge  home with sand in your hair.  ((BUT PLEASE…be sure to shake everything out before putting them in our washers and dryers!!  Sand plugs things up quickly and causes costly repairs.))

INDIAN RIVER INLET

Currently undergoing massive construction.  Its still a great sight to come to the top of the bridge and see waves crashing on Surfers Beach which lies at the foot of the Inlet Bridge on the northbound lane of Coastal Hwy…just don’t look left as you’re driving by.  Here’s the State’s website for more info. on all the wonderful things available in that area http://www.destateparks.com/park/delaware-seashore/index.asp. 

Officially located in Rehoboth, this Delaware Seashore State Park is known by locals and any seasoned Delaware beach lover and fishing fans as “The Inlet”…it’s where the Ocean joins the Rehoboth Bay and Indian River.

Cape Henolopen State Park

This is another fun beach located in Lewes where the Ocean meets Delaware Bay.  A bit off the beaten track but worth a trip.   If hiking is something you’d like to try this vacation, be sure to visit this park.  There are wonderful dunes to hike  and a wonderful lighthouse to visit.   http://www.destateparks.com/directions/cape-henlopen/index.asp

The Delaware Seashore State Parks are truly gems and an important part of the Delaware beach scene.  And such a bargain for granny at $12. a year!
